Osmodrama ist die Kunst zeitbasierten Gestaltens mit Gerüchen in Serien – Jeder Atemzug ein neuer Geruch. Abfolgen deutlicher Düfte und ihrer plötzlichen oder allmählichen Veränderungen;
Im ganzen Raum;
ohne Stau und Überlagerungen;
Chemische Kommunikation in Bewegung.

Smeller is an electronic instrument to create, record and project distinct and rapid scent-sequences happening for the bare nose in contained venues. This opens up a new practice of olfactory art: Osmodrama.

Olfaction bears a fundamentally different approach to time: Odor moves way slower than light or sound, but reaches consciousness faster than image or noise: A most direct perception before reason or judgement get into play.
That allows us to perform and experiment with molecules that turn into memories and emotions immediately.

The Osmodrama Festival Berlin 2016 ignited an ongoing discourse and forged future cooperations.
Smeller and Osmodrama open up an operational as well as theoretical field for artists and scientists.

Osmodrama is the art of time-based composing with series of smells.
A new scent with every breath taken. Successions of distinct smells and of sudden changes;
throughout the venue;
without lingering;
and without blurring with the succeeding or the preceding scent.
Chemical communication in motion.

Long after the pictures learned to move, Osmodrama brings smells into motion – for collective experience.

A permanent program and twelve premieres for the public have generated about 60 media reports and reviews so far – and a larger book is in preparation.

During the development and first time application of new staging formats, the Synosmy improved.

In music we say symphony.

In olfaction we call it Synosmy: compositions of odors and chords of scents, alone, with no other senses involved than the sense of smell.

Osmodrama introduces timebased narratives of smell sequences in high diversity, an art practice to explore new formats:
Performing arts combined with kinetic scents. „Synosmies“ as standalones – or in conjunction with film, literature, music, sound, dance, theater;

With Smeller 2.0 we had 64 channels of basic scent components for performing, programming and computer controlled streaming
– and even internet-transmitting –
thousands of different smells and chords of scents to be explored as its own kind of immersive and collective reality.

This is a beginning.
